Pioneer Children’s Art Competition 2025

INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this competition, in keeping with the broader spiritual aims of our association,  is to encourage young people to consider how the love of God, as revealed by Jesus, encourages us to be kind and caring persons.

The competition is open to all pupils  in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Classes in Primary Schools, and to children of similar age who are being home-schooled.   

CATCHMENT AREA

Ballinasloe Community Faith Area (Aughrim & Kilconnell, Ballinasloe-Creagh, Ballymacward & Gurteen, Clontuskert, Fohenagh & Killure, Lawrencetown & Kiltormer, Taughmaconnell), Ahascragh-Caltra and Moore-Clonfad parishes.

The Council look forward to extending the competition to other Faith Areas in future years, subject to more volunteers and sponsors coming on board.

CATEGORIES

The competition is divided into four categories:

* Category A
    Children in 5th  or 6th Class (and home-schooled children of similar ages)

* Category B
    Children in 5th or 6th Class with Additional Educational Needs

* Category C
    Children in 3rd or 4th Class (and home-schooled children of similar ages)

* Category D
    Children in 3rd or 4th Class with Additional Educational Needs

PRIZES

Prizes will be awarded to the three best entries in each category, as follows:

1st Prize (all four categories)

A Winner’s Certificate and an Art Hamper Voucher (which can be used to purchase paints, colouring markers, stetch pad, pens, pencils etc.) to the value of €40.00.

2nd Prize (all four categories)

A Runners-up Certificate and an Art Hamper Voucher (which can be used to purchase paints, colouring markers, stetch pad, pens, pencils etc.) to the value of €30.00.

3rd Prize (all four categories)

A Runners-up Certificate and an Art Hamper Voucher (which can be used to purchase paints, colouring markers, stetch pad, pens, pencils etc.) to the value of €20.00.

FURTHER RECOGNITION

The best entry from each participating school, other than the above winners, will also receive a special certificate noting their achievement.

There will also be two special prizes of  Art Hamper Vouchers to the value of €30 each for the two best entries received from Young Pioneers.

PRESENTATION OF PRIZES

The presentation of prizes will take place on the evening of Thursday 10th April in the Emerald Ballroom, Ballinasloe, c. 8.45 pm, during the interval of our annual Primary Schools’ & Clubs’ Quiz Competition.

The Council will advise each school of the winners and presentation ceremony  in good time.

THEME

The theme of the Art Competition are Jesus words, ‘Do not be afraid‘.

Entrants may include a sentence (less than 12 words) at the bottom of their entry  that communicates how their entry relates to Jesus’ words.

DELIVERY POINT FOR ENTRIES

Please hand deliver (normal business hours) or post entries to: PTAA Children’s Art Competition, c/o The Presbytery, Dunlo St., Ballinasloe. Co. Galway. H53 VX78

Entries from schools must be placed in separate envelopes, i.e. according to category .  Thank you .

CLOSING DATE FOR ENTRIES

Friday 28th March 2025.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

  1. An official entry form, which can be downloaded below must accompany each entry.  It should be stapled to the back of the art work.
  2. The name of the entrant must not appear on the artwork – only on the Entry Form.
  3. The artwork should not be smaller than A4 and not larger than A3. Any type of paper/card may be used – white, coloured, rough or smooth.
  4. The judges are seeking the child’s interpretation, mindful of the person of and mission of Jesus.
  5. All art work must be certified by a teacher/SNA/facilitator or parent/guardian as being the unaided and original work of the entrant.
  6.  Children of all Christian denominations, other world faiths and of families who do not hold a religious world view are welcome to enter.

  7. The art work can be painted or drawn, in pencil, charcoal, pen, ink, felt-tip marker, crayon, pastel, water colour, gouache, acrylics, oils, poster colour or collage. Prints done from a lino block, wood block or any other method will also be accepted. No computer aided design (CAD) may be entered.
  8. Framed entries will not be accepted.
  9. The maximum number of entries from any one entrant is one entry.
  10. Artwork will not be returned. Paintings submitted become the property of  PTAA Clonfert Diocesan Council.
  11. The decision of the judges will be final. No correspondence will be entered into regarding their decisions.
  12. A breach of any one of the rules will disqualify the entrant.
